LICENCES
What we build on.
Every picture, font and reference in the learning tools, and where it comes from.
Symbols
The symbol set is the Mulberry Symbols collection, released under the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.0 UK licence by Garry Paxton. We use it as the single picture source across boards, sheets and lessons. Where a symbol is redrawn or recoloured for legibility, the same licence carries over.
Personal pictures
Photographs and drawings a family adds stay with that family. They are stored for their child, never added to the shared symbol set, and never used in anything we publish.
Fonts
Headings and body text use Atkinson Hyperlegible, released by the Braille Institute of America under the Open Font Licence, and Lexend, also under the Open Font Licence. Both are chosen for readability rather than style.
Curriculum and guidance
Lessons reference published statutory documents by name: the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, the national curriculum, and the SEND code of practice 0 to 25 years. We link to the official versions and write our own wording. No guidance text is reproduced in bulk.
Other people's resources
Beyond Words does not copy another publisher's symbols, artwork, template files or wording. Formats such as a feelings thermometer, a now and next board, a Venn diagram or a communication fan are long standing special education practice, and ours are drawn from scratch with our own symbol set and our own words.
